About This Project

The cutting and gluing of paper designs, thin materials, photographs, etc. to cover an object is the art of decoupage. Tryk veneering attempts to combine this aesthetic, whilst maximizing coverage and minimizing effort; a lot of work has already gone into the design of a Tryk, so why waste it? Veneer is most often thought of as being a wood product for giving objects an expensive timber appearance. The actual definition veneer is “a deceptive, superficial show” or a façade and today we have many options to disguise cheap construction materials from plastics through to shaved ply. These traditional veneers require energy and resources to produce, whereas stockpiles of Tryk samples have already served a purpose and do not add to societies’ consumptiveness.
