Rug Dish

To create a bowl with a diameter of 20cm you need two carpet samples. For a bigger bowl take more samples and increase the width of the stripes accordingly to the diameter. In addition to that You need a carpet cutter, a cutting mat, a cutting ruler, a hammer and a bunch of nails.Cut stripes from out of your carpet sample with a width of at least 25 mm and start to roll them as tight as you can. Fix the end of the stripe by nailing it. Start with a new stripe by fixing it again with a nail as close to the end of the last stripe as you can by not overlapping it. Keep rolling planarly. Stop when you reached the diameter that you want. To create the bowl-shape you can either push the middle of the roll softly inside or put the roll over an existing bowl the get an even shape. Carpet Shoe

Carpet is a luxury many take for granted, as are simple commodities like shoes. Inspired by initiatives like Tom’s Shoes, I developed this primitive shoe that can be created for essentially no cost. Once simple tooling is created, they could be mass produced and even shipped flat to 3rd world countries in Africa and elsewhere and assembled by the local community. This creates not only a wise business model, but also a sense of ownership for the recipients of the gift.As the saying goes, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Download Instructions
